Gary’s Story
This guitar is the companion to my 10th Anniversary Custom 22 #1333, but it has a personality all its own.
Private Stock #1326 is a Singlecut Trem completed October 18, 2006 as part of the series celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Private Stock. It was designed and created by Joe Knaggs, Paul Reed Smith and the Private Stock team.
The guitar begins with a spectacular quilted maple top finished in Tiger Eye Burst over a South American mahogany back. The neck is solid Brazilian rosewood with a Wide Fat carve.
There is something about the feel of a great solid Brazilian rosewood neck that is difficult to duplicate. It feels substantial and exceptionally smooth in the hands and gives this guitar a distinctive personality.
The anniversary inlays use the same extraordinary palette of shell, pearl, paua, abalone, green snail, orange Madre per Lato, 14-karat gold, red coral and koa, with custom-engraved pickup covers, rosewood tuner buttons and pickup rings, and elaborate binding.
It plays exceptionally well, and its sonic spectrum is exceptional. The PRS 9 pickups simply sing, with depth and authority in the lower register, excellent midrange presence and clarity on top.
The Singlecut construction gives it a different personality from the Custom 22. It has the solidity and authority I want from this style of guitar while retaining the precision and responsiveness of a great PRS.
I’ve owned and played some exceptional Les Pauls and other single-cutaway guitars over the years.
This is my favorite Les Paul-style guitar.
